Perhaps The Most Important Startup Equation

In response to my last dispatch on “Will it make the boat go faster?” my dear friend, creator of SeedDB and TechStar’s Director of Technology Jed Christiansen pointed me to this tweet of his.

The photo captures the essence of how you create massive change: Little by little paired with consistency.

If you make a 1% improvement every day for one year (and assume that those improvements compound — which they often do), you end up being nearly 38 times better!

Change is hard. Making things better is hard. Creating change on a large scale all at once is close to impossible. But making tiny improvements and keeping at it is very doable. It might not feel like much, and in the moment it doesn’t look like it — but do not underestimate the power of compounding changes.

What do they say about the best way to eat an elephant? One bite at a time!

Why don’t you spend some time this weekend to identify some small improvements you can make right away? And then keep asking yourself: What else can you do to make your boat go faster?
