It Does Get Better

There are days when you feel the whole world is against you. As a startup founder these days are surely more frequent than for the average person.

As Thomas Goetz (founder of Iodine) points out in his recent column for Inc. Magazine:

Most entrepreneurs are well acquainted with stress, isolation, fatigue, and fear of failure. So too, it turns out, are those who suffer from depression.

There is, of course, an antidote. Surround yourself with a strong network of friends and people who go through the same stuff as you do. Create a safe space for you to have open, honest conversations. About a year ago we talked about Doubt Club — an excellent format to air your concerns and doubts in a safe environment. We now do this regularly with the founders of our Singularity University Accelerator startups.

Find comfort in knowing that even dark days can’t last longer than 24 hours. As my friend Aza Raskin once said: “The Future is a Renewable Resource.”

Every day is a new day. Every moment is a new moment. You get a new chance every minute of the day. Know that we are here for you. That we want you to succeed. That it does get better.
