A conversation with a fellow entrepreneur today reminded me of the curious character trait which makes many of us skip celebrating our successes.
We might open the occasional bottle of bubbly — only to immediately after the glass is emptied going back to work. It’s a perpetual “onward and upward”. Rarely (if ever) do we take the time to look back and acknowledge what we have achieved.
Don’t get me wrong. There is always more to do. The game is never over. And as the legendary German soccer coach Sepp Herberger once said:
Nach dem Spiel ist vor dem Spiel — After the game is before the game.
And yet — as much as all of this is true, it’s incredibly important to celebrate. Stop for a moment to truly acknowledge what you and your team have achieved. Celebrate the good times.
You can’t know where you’re going when you don’t know where you came from.
