Yesterday we talked about how you can’t teach someone heart. Which prompted a very thoughtful response from a dear friend, amazing leader and fellow Heretic arguing that he agrees with the statement, but that it also doesn’t mean you’re off the hook as a manager.
I agree. It can’t be a cop-out.
“As a leader it is your job to tell the story and make it matter.”
As a leader it is your responsibility to keep reminding your people why you’re doing what you’re doing. Why their work is important, what the long-term goal is and how you get there. A big part of your job is to tell the story of your company and make it matter.
And then: Make sure you remove the obstacles out of your teams’ way so that they can do what they need to do.
