The other day I spoke with someone who felt stuck in her current position. She was doing her job for a good decade now and felt the strong urge to reinvent herself. Do something different. Explore a new industry. Maybe start something.
Albeit — she didn’t.
She was stuck in an eternal if-loop: IF she would just get a job in that other industry. IF she could just get someone to give her a chance. IF she could only find that one person who believes in her.
I can guarantee you that there always will be an IF. Especially when you are doing something new, different, daring.
But what if — that next IF doesn’t matter to you? What if you just ignore it, don’t ask for permission and just do it? What’s the worst that could happen? And what’s a small step you can do today to overcome your next IF?
Nothing beats momentum — get going. Today. No IFs and BUTs.
P.S. I’ll be traveling for the next week; speaking in the Netherlands (if you’re in Delft — come and join us!) and hosting a retreat for our Singularity University portfolio companies. Thus I won’t be able to post quite as much…
