All too often we obsess about our competition. We consider it “smart” to be “one step ahead” of our competitors and spend large chunks of time trying to understand their strategy and next moves.
Focus on your customer instead. As long as you obsess over driving value to your customers you’re fine. Customers pay you. Competitors not.
I knew an entrepreneur who literally didn’t care what his competitors were doing (and he was in a highly competitive field). He spent every waking hour making sure he delivered products his customers loved. And guess what? As he had his eyes and ears so close to the ground, he continually saw trends much earlier than anyone else. His company became the one to beat. And he still didn’t care about his competition.
